Karen Zawadzki LPC
I'm Karen Zawadzki, Licensed Professional Counselor.
I believe therapy works best when you can show up as you are—without having to have the right words, have everything figured out, or worry about being judged. My style is warm, genuine, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can be honest about what’s going on, make sense of it together, and figure out what might actually help.
I’ve been in private practice since 2013, after spending three years working with adults living with chronic mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Over the years, I’ve worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and recovery, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, caregiver stress and burnout, and the many challenges that can come with trying to balance everyone else’s needs with your own.
My approach is trauma-informed and integrative. I draw from CBT, person-centered therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and DBT, as well as mindfulness, meditation, grounding, and somatic, body-based approaches. But I don’t believe in forcing someone into a particular therapy model. I think of these approaches as tools in a toolbox, and together we figure out which ones make sense for you and what you’re going through.
I especially enjoy working with women navigating transitions and with moms and parents of neurodivergent kids. I’m neurodiversity-affirming and have a particular interest in ADHD and executive functioning challenges. I also work with clients on emotional regulation, setting boundaries, building self-compassion, developing coping skills, and managing the stress and exhaustion that can come with caring for other people.
One of the things I value most about therapy is helping people connect the dots—understanding themselves and their patterns in a deeper way, while also finding practical things they can actually use in their everyday lives. Insight is important, but so are the tools that help you get through Tuesday afternoon when everything feels like too much.
I don’t think there’s one right way to do therapy, and I don’t expect you to fit into a particular mold. My goal is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and work alongside you to find an approach that feels authentic, useful, and sustainable for you.
